The vivo X70 Pro + which was announced earlier last month in China and debuted globally a few days ago has landed in our offices for a review. We received the international model, which comes in a single Enigma Black color, unlike its Chinese counterpart which also comes in shades of orange and blue, displaying vegan leather backs.
The X70 Pro + comes in a square shaped retail box that feels quite upscale thanks to the leather finish. Inside are the 55W charger, a USB-C cable, USB-C headphones, a 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, a protective case, a SIM eject tool and the usual documents. .
The X70 Pro + is built around an HDR10 + certified 10-bit WQHD + 120Hz LTPO E5 curved AMOLED display and a peak brightness of 1500 nits. It has a punch hole in the center for the 32MP selfie camera and a fingerprint reader underneath for biometric authentication, which we found to be pretty quick and accurate in the short time we spent with the phone.
The back panel of the Enigma Black X70 Pro + is constructed with new Fluorite AG technology, providing a satin finish. It is pleasant to the touch and adds to the overall experience, which is further complemented by the sturdy construction of the device. You can tell the X70 Pro + is a premium smartphone from the moment you hold it.
The X70 Pro + has only one color option in global markets because vivo said it has adopted a flagship single-color philosophy for the phone, and because the company is not bringing the leatherback variants. outside of China, the brand decided to make up for it by bundling a protective case with a leather-like finish.
Enough about the back panel, let’s talk about the large camera island that quickly catches the eye. The module houses a 50MP, 48MP ultralarge, 12MP portrait, and 8MP periscope main unit. The main camera comes with OIS and uses the Ultra-Sensing GN1 sensor, while the ultra-wide camera comes with a gimbal, which can be used for photos and videos.
On the right side of the cameras is the Ceramic Cloud Window, which can double as a self-portrait mirror if you want to venture out and capture selfies with the main camera. The smartphone also incorporates the V1 imaging chip developed by vivo and comes with ZEISS enhancements, which we will talk about in detail in our full review along with other features of the handset.
Under the hood, the vivo X70 Pro + features the Snapdragon 888+ SoC, combined with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It also comes with the Extended RAM feature, which allows you to add up to 4 GB of RAM virtually from internal storage.
The X70 Pro + is immediately running Funtouch OS 12 based on Android 11, and vivo has confirmed that global models won’t be receiving OriginOS anytime soon. The company hasn’t told us either about the software support we should expect for the X70 Pro +, but since it’s vivo’s premium flagship, we’re hoping it gets at least two upgrades from the X70 Pro +. Android version.
The Snapdragon 888 Plus powered smartphone is IP68 dust and water resistant, has stereo speakers, and contains a 4,500 mAh battery that is powered through a USB-C port up to 55 W. The smartphone Also supports 10W reverse wireless charging and 50W wireless charging, but you will need to purchase the compatible wireless charger from vivo separately as it is not part of the retail package. vivo told us the X70 Pro + will charge via other third-party wireless chargers, but charging speeds will vary.
Our vivo X70 Pro + review is ongoing, so stick around to see if it’s a worthwhile purchase.
