Philippines: Immunization campaign against measles and polio to start in Eastern Visayas

By News Desk @bactiman63

The Eastern Visayas Ministry of Health says a month-long immunization program in the region will begin February 1, covering more than 535,000 children aged zero to nine months and under five years for measles vaccines- rubella and oral polio, respectively.

Elaine Villarosa, National Immunization Program Manager for DOH Eastern Visayas, said the region is part of the second phase of the national campaign, including the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Cagayan Valley, Western Visayas and Central Visayas.

The first phase took place in parts of Mindanao and parts of Luzon, she added.

“The main purpose of vaccination is to boost the immunity level of our children. We call on the public, especially parents and guardians, to support this campaign. We are taking this action to prevent an impending outbreak over an existing pandemic and avoid further injury to the healthcare system that we are experiencing at this time,” Villarosa said.
