Motorola X30 Pro unveiled: first 200 MP camera, 125 W charging, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

Motorola, owned by Lenovo, launched a new flagship smartphone at a special event in China. The new Moto X30 Pro has some great specs, including a 200MP main camera, Qualcomm’s first Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, plus 120W super-fast charging and a 6.73 pOLED display inches at 144Hz with FHD+ resolution. .
The Moto X30 Pro stands out from the crowd by being the first on the market with a 200MP main camera. Yes, the megapixel war is on again, and we’re sure there will be plenty more 200MP rivals to follow, using Samsung’s latest ISOCELL HP1 camera (including Samsung’s models). The actual camera sensor measures 1/1.22 inch and uses pixel clustering technology called ChameleonCell to scale from full pixel imaging methodologies to 2×2, to 4×4 pixels. So in low light conditions, for example, the 4×4 mode can merge 16 cells into one large pixel equivalent of 2.56 micrometers, delivering a 12.5 MP image. Larger pixels (or arrays of pixels) can gather more light in dark scenes, providing better image quality – in theory. The main camera frills don’t stop at the sensor, the lens has an f/1.95 aperture, OIS will help keep your photos sharp and users can record up to 8K video at 30 fps .

In the photos you can see that the large main camera is underlined by two other lenses. It’s a 50MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera and a Sony IMX663 12MP f/1.6 telephoto lens. On the front of the Moto X30 Pro, at the top center of the large display, is a 60MP f/2.2 selfie camera.

As for the display, which you’ll be eyeing when looking at your up to 200MP photos, Motorola has built the X30 Pro around a 6.73-inch 144Hz pOLED display with FHD+ resolution. This display can produce up to 1200 nits at maximum brightness and covers 100% of the DCI-P3 gamut. Plus, it’s HDR10+ rated for displaying compatible content. There is an in-display fingerprint sensor for biometric security.

Inside this slab form factor device is a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, along with options with 8/12GB of RAM and 128/256/512GB of storage. Other internal specs worth highlighting are the 4,610mAh battery with support for 125W wired fast charging. This allows users to go from empty to full in just 19 minutes, according to Motorola. Wireless charging is pretty fast too, with up to 50W from an optional accessory. Android 12 comes pre-installed with MyUI 4.0 user interface.

In terms of availability, the Motorola X30 Pro will be available for purchase this week in China with either white or black finishes. Pricing for the entry-level 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model starts at CNY3,699 ($548), rising to CNY4,499 ($668) for the full-fledged 12GB RAM model and 512 GB of storage.

If you’re more into foldables and are willing to pay top dollar, Motorola has also launched its flagship Razr 2022 foldable with 144Hz display and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
