5 different ways to unlock your phone

Android stands for diversity and freedom of choice and this also applies when it comes to unlocking our smartphones. Android has several ways of doing this and each method can be useful for a certain type of user or in certain scenarios. These are the five ways

1. Expose the body

You can recognize the phone when it is in your hand or in your pocket. With Smart Lock and Body Detection, it can then make sure that you only have to unlock once, and as long as you keep moving after that, your smartphone will also stay unlocked. If your phone notices that it has been deactivated, the lock will restart.

Body detection is a useful method that allows you to unlock fewer locks, but it comes with an obvious risk. If someone suddenly grabs your phone from your hands and walks away with it, it’s technically still on the move. So you benefit from greater ease of use but take a little more risk. In the detailed plan below, we explain how to set it up.

  • Enter your PIN code and confirm
  • Press on body detection
  • Turn on the switch
  • To choose stroll

2. Biometric security

You can use your fingerprint to unlock almost any smartphone in any price segment, which is common for a reason. Fingerprint scanners are fast and reliable. With the Samsung Galaxy S10, there was always an issue when using the ultrasonic scanner, but this is also fixed with the update.

Less useful than a fingerprint scanner, unlocking using facial recognition. If your smartphone also uses other sensors to recognize you besides the selfie camera, that’s another matter. But most modern phones come without a dedicated DOT display or infrared scanner. Various studies have already shown that recognition using a single selfie camera is not reliable enough.

Additionally, Samsung tried a virus scanner years ago, but this technology has never been hacked. Below, you will find out how to set up biometric security.

3. Places of trust

You can choose trusted places with Smart Lock, and while you’re there, your phone will stay unlocked. If you leave the premises, you must open the lock each time as usual. This feature is a great idea for someone who lives alone for example and chooses their home as a place of trust, but obviously you are not using public spaces for this feature. A good dose of common sense is therefore important. We explain how to configure it.

4. Reason, PIN or password

This is the old way to secure your phone, but these methods also work as a backup for biometric security and other locking alternatives. However, there are also a few things to watch out for with somewhat slow but safe opening methods.

For example, make sure you have a secure password for the file. It uses an unpredictable pattern – yes, we mean the ‘L’ movement – an original description of the digits for the PIN code. If you choose “1,2,3,4” as the PIN code, it is better not to add a lock method at all. This is how you set up this type of insurance.

5. Trusted devices

We already use many “smart devices” that often connect to our phones; Think smartwatches or bluetooth headphones. If your phone is still connected to one of these Bluetooth devices, you can use Smart Lock to keep it unlocked all the time.

Although this feature also stands out clearly disclaimer, because the Bluetooth connection between the devices can be up to 120 meters. In other words, if your phone is in a room other than the one you are in with your smartwatch, anyone in that room can use your device. We explain how to configure it.
